Hartwick College is a non-denominational, private, four-year liberal arts and sciences college located in Oneonta, which is a city in southern Otsego County, in the US state of New York, which, according to the 2000 census, has a population of more than 13 000 inhabitants.
The college was established in 1797 and was founded through the will of John Christopher Hartwick, a Lutheran minister from Germany, who led several mission congregations of early settlers, along the Hudson River and the Mohawk River, in what is now upstate New York. The school currently offers its students 31 courses of study that lead to Bachelors of Arts (B.A.) or Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degrees, as well as four pre-professional programs, five cooperative programs and academic minors, including an education certification program.
Hartwick's athletic teams are known as the Hawks and they compete in NCAA Division III, for most sports, also participating in NCAA Division I, for men's soccer and women's water polo. Their distinctive colors are blue and white.
Scott Adams - creator of Dilbert, Mike Burns - former professional soccer player, and T.J. Allard - actor, are among the noteworthy alumni from Hartwick College.
